Food Test – Lipids

Food Test – Lipids

IN THIS EXPERIMENT YOU WILL…

Test for the presence of lipids in different types of food. Lipids are molecules that contain hydrocarbonsIn organic chemistry, a hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon. Hydrocarbons are examples of group 14 hydrides. Hydrocarbons from which one hydrogen atom has been removed are functional groups called hydrocarbyls. and make up the building blocks of the structure and function of living cells. Examples of lipids include fats, oils, waxes, certain vitamins, hormones and most of the non-protein membrane of cells. They are non-polar and are thus soluble in ethanol but insoluble in water.
